Motithang Takin Preserve is a wildlife reserve located in Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. It is a sanctuary for the takin, which is the national animal of Bhutan.

The takin is a unique animal with a goat-like appearance and a cow-like head. According to Bhutanese legend, the animal was created by the great Buddhist saint, Drukpa Kunley, who combined the bones of a goat and a cow to form the first takin.

The Motithang Takin Preserve was established in 1976 to protect this endangered species, which is found only in Bhutan, Tibet, and nearby areas of China. The preserve covers an area of approximately 8 hectares (19.8 acres) and is located in a forested area of Thimphu.

Visitors to the preserve can see takins up close and observe their behavior in their natural habitat. The preserve also has other wildlife such as sambar deer, barking deer, and Himalayan serow. It is a popular tourist attraction and a great place for nature lovers to experience Bhutan’s unique wildlife.
