Lhakang Karpo is situated in Uesu Gewog, nestled among the majestic Rigsum Goempo mountains in Haa. This sacred temple stands tall, resembling a fortress, overlooking the revered Haa river in the valley.
The temple holds immense significance as it houses the revered images of Sangye Tshepamey and Ap Chhundu, the main deities of the Haa valley. It serves not only as a place of worship but also as a Buddhist school, imparting spiritual teachings to its followers.
One of the highlights of Lhakang Karpo is its annual festival, held in the temple courtyard. During this vibrant celebration, thousands of local residents and tourists gather to witness mesmerizing mask dances and captivating local performances, immersing themselves in the rich cultural heritage of Haa.
As the evening sets in, the temple becomes a captivating sight, illuminated by countless lights that enhance its beauty. However, it is important to note that the shrine closes for a lunch break from 12:00 to 1:00, so visitors should plan their visit accordingly. Other than that, the temple welcomes visitors until 4:00 PM, allowing ample time to explore its serene surroundings and soak in the spiritual atmosphere.
