Every year, in the 8th lunar month of the Bhutanese calendar, a festival called the Mebar Tsho festival is held at the lake. The festival is a colorful celebration of Bhutanese culture, and it attracts thousands of pilgrims and tourists from all over the world.

During the festival, a large statue of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) is carried across the lake on a ceremonial boat, and devotees make offerings of butter lamps and other sacred items.
